Join us in our mission to create new foster homes in McDowell County and help keep our children in their community.
Our vision is to partner with our local faith community to create new foster homes for McDowell County children experiencing foster care. Allowing them the opportunity to remain in their home community by educating local church members about the needs of children and families being served by McDowell County DSS.
McDowell County DSS One Church One Child is a new program that started in June 2024. We are dedicated to creating a successful program that will grow and come to serve hundreds of McDowell County children both currently and for many years to come!
The McDowell County DSS One Church One Child Ministry is a program where McDowell County DSS will partner with McDowell County churches, community organizations, and community partners to:
- Meet the life essential needs of McDowell County children, teens, and birth parents who are receiving child protective services, foster care and adoption services.
- Support relatives who provide care/placement for children in foster care or other children placed away from their birth families
- Inform local church community members about the needs of McDowell County children and families who need assistance and support
The church will:
- Recruit a church coordinator to be the liaison/contact between the church and DSS.
- Church coordinator will be asked to attend leadership meetings at member's church.
- Sponsor at least one educational project or program during the year.
- Keep the message about the needs of children and families
McDowell County DSS will:
- Train and support church coordinators.
- Provide all printed materials and provide program speakers at the church's request.
- Coordinate communication among member's churches and conduct meetings for church coordinators and pastors.
- Provide special recognition for church members.
